You guys asked for it and i’m excited to share all the details! Our Laundry Room in our new house needed a MAJOR update. The old owners just did not keep up with this room at all!
Prepping the Laundry Room
As you can see in the picture above, the walls were a complete disaster. They were dirty, painted horribly and all different colors. We really think they spakled and painted right over it without sanding it down AND we believe they painted over dust! CRAZY!
So to start we had to tear down all of the shelves and rods the old owner had hanging up (nothing was reusable because of how dirty it was). Once we tore everything down we got a really good look at how bad the paint job was and how uneven the walls were. It took a lot of sanding and spakling (especially by my dad) but we finally got the walls to be all one smooth wall! What a task that was!
We had to tear up their floors next. They were old school peel and stick tiles that came up from the concrete pretty easily! Then we vacuumed the room and we were ready to add our touch to it!
Our Laundry Room Update
First we primed the walls with paint from Sherwin Williams, and put a layer of adhesive on the concrete for the peel and stick. We then laid down a peel and stick tile I found on Amazon! I’m in LOVE with how it turned out!
This is the exact peel and stick tile I used – Floors Pops Peel & Stick in Grey
It was generally easy to lay down – the hardest part was the near the walls, corners and near the doors. We used a utlility knife to cut each piece after we measured how much had to be cut off.
Next we are painting the walls Sherwin Williams Pure White! We decided on this color because of how small the room is and because there our no windows! it will keep the room bright and airy!
What’s Next for the Laundry Room?
The washer and dryer will be delivered on Saturday (the old owners took the washer & dryer that were there). We decided on the Samsung Washer & Dryer. We really liked the size of them and that they were crazy with a ton of buttons and gadgets on them – but they weren’t the very basic!
I am also going to put thick white shelves above the washer & sink and dryer for storage! I’m thinking something like this on amazon. We will also figure out a way to hide our water system that you see in the middle of the laundry room! Any suggestions?
Eventually we will get a new utility sink – but for now the one that is there will work fine
